The warm waters of Chesapeake Bay continue to energize Zachary. Wind gusts increase as the hurricane becomes more turbulent due to terrestrial friction. Sustained winds continue to be tracked at between 96 to 110 miles per hour (CAT-2).
A North-South corridor between I-95 and the Chesapeake Bay experiences particular turbulence as the still warm-wet storm interacts with the cooler landmass of late October. Some gusts of over 140 mph are recorded causing significant structural damage in Virginia's Northern Neck and in the Maryland counties of Anne Arundel, Calvert, Prince George's, and St. Mary's.
