Flooding in Washington DC is wide spread. Many roads along the Potomac River, the Anacostia River, the Washington Channel, and the Tidal Basin are closed. Flood water is expected to subside by mid-afternoon on October 30. It may take road crews 24 hours or more after the water has subsided to restore and reopen the roads.
Zachary has flooded the 9th St. and 12th Street Tunnels. It also flooded NB/SB I-395 and SB I-295. Preliminary damage assessments indicate that both tunnels will be closed for 2 days, I-395 is expected to be closed for 3 days at the 14th Street Bridge split to downtown to drain the flood water and complete emergency road repair, and SB I-295 is expected to be closed for 2 days -- traffic on I-295 SB will be diverted to S. Capitol Street and Overlook Drive around the flood point.
Maine Ave SW, Independence Ave SW, along the Tidal Basin, and 17th St SW (between Independence Ave SW and Constitution Ave SW) are closed due to flooding.
